ERJ staff report (DS)
Oberwihl, Germany -- 50 years ago, in 1960, Freudenberg bought a production plant for silk ribbons in the town of Oberwihl in the German region of southern Baden. Its objective in doing so was to produce O-ring seals for industrial applications.
Today, Freudenberg claims to be the world market leader for O-rings; Oberwihl plays a key role in this success. Over 400 people are currently employed at the location. This means that over the course of the past 50 years, the plant has not only developed into a popular employer, but is also an important economic factor in the region.
