Michigan gives grants to scrap tyre companies

Lansing, Michigan -- Michigan's Department of Natural Resources and Environment is awarding seven grants totaling $1,261,600 to two counties and one university to provide for the increased use of scrap tyres in road projects around the state.
The Cass County Road Commission will receive a $181,000 grant to cover 50 percent of the cost to purchase equipment, as well as 50 percent of the costs associated with purchasing rubberised asphalt material and installation of 1.75 miles of ground tyre rubber modified asphalt overlay.
Michigan State University, partnering with the Ingham County Road Commission, will receive a $453,199 grant for 50 percent of the cost to install and test three different modified asphalt pavement designs or types of modified asphalt pavement.
The Saginaw County Road Commission will receive a total of $627,401 distributed among five grant projects for up to 50 percent of the cost to reconstruct approximately 5.75 miles of road using ground tyre rubber modified asphalt.
Funding for this grant program is available under the authority of the state's Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act. Persons using scrap tyres in road projects in Michigan are eligible to apply for these funds
