Malaysia's NR ouput rose in August

Kuala Lumpur -- Malaysia produced 80,643 tonnes of natural rubber in August. This is up by 6.8 percent over the year-ago figure, but a decrease of 440 tonnes (-0.5 percent) when compared to the previous month.
Exports exceeded production at 85,587 tonnes in August, up by 25 percent over the previous August and also up by 10,082 tonnes (+13.4 percent)over the previous month. Of the total exports, 81,274 tonnes was Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R.) of which 50.2 per cent was from S.M.R 20.
The major destinations of Malaysia's NR were China (48.1 percent), Germany (11.8 percent), Islamic Republic of Iran (5.2 percent), Republic of Korea (4.2 percent), U.S.A. (3.4 percent), Turkey (2.8 percent),Portugal (2.5 percent), France (2.0 percent) and Brazil (1.7 percent).
Imports also rose strongly, reaching 74,648 tonnes in August, up by 25.1 per cent on the previous August and up by 17,615 tonnes (+30.9 percent) over the previous month. The main type of rubber imported was again latex concentrate which contributed 54.8 per cent to total NR imports.
Domestic consumption of NR was recorded at 39,418 tonnes, down by 3.9 percent on the year-ago figure, but up by 1,245 tonnes (+3.3 percent) from the previous month.
The trend of the average monthly price of NR in August 2010 was mixed compared to the previous month. While the average price of latex concentrate dropped 0.4 per cent to 691.05 sen, the average price of SMR 20 went up by 4.4 per centto 955.40 sen. However, significant price increases continued to be registered for year-on-year comparison with latex concentrate and S.M.R 20 rising 49.9 per cent and 44.6 per cent respectively.
