Trelleborg AVS wins fitments in Malaysia
ERJ staff report (DS)
Trelleborg, Sweden -- Trelleborg Industrial AVS has won the contract to supply rubber/metal bonded suspension mounts to ARA Rail Technologies of Kuala Lumpur for the refurbishment of 130 passenger coaches operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
Trelleborg is supplying over 2,000 Metalastik chevrons as primary suspension springs. They are fitted in pairs between the wheel axles and bogie frame, eight per bogie, 16 per coach to give longitudinal, vertical and lateral flexibility and are designed to absorb high levels of shock and vibration.
ARA Rail Technologies is refurbishing 130 coaches out of a total of around 200 operated by KTMB. Of these, 60 are ADNS (air-conditioned day and night second class) coaches, ten AFC (air-conditioned first class and 60 air-conditioned second class). The project started in 2007 and is due for completion in 2011. The refurbished coaches will operate on Malaysia's two main long-distance lines, from Singapore through Kuala Lumpur north to the port of Butterworth and the east coast line, which runs from the junction at Gemas to Kota Bharu and Tumpat.
