Global adhesives and sealant markets set for modest recovery
San Jose, California - Global Industry Analysts reports that, while the decline in sales of adhesives and sealants seen in 2008-2009 will reverse in the present year, demand will remain modest through 2012.
Adhesive sales are projected to exceed 25.4 billion pounds, while the value of the global sealant market is poised to reach $6.35 billion by 2015, GIA said in an 18 Oct press release. Much of the growth in the medium to long-term will stem from the rising tide of research activity in the field of VOC (volatile organic compound)-compliant adhesives, and environmentally friendly technologies, the firm says.
In terms of product segment, while rubber-based systems are widely used, silicone and polyurethane products dominate the world sealants market, according to Adhesives and Sealants - A Global Strategic Business Report. The global market for silicone sealants, for example, is projected to reach $1.6 billion by 2015, the press release said.
While markets in Europe and North America account for a major share of the global adhesive and sealant market in terms of volume sales, recent sales trends have been negative. Also, growth in Asia-Pacific remained modest as gains in China were counterbalanced by large declines in the mature economies of Taiwan and South Korea, the release explained. This is because markets in developed nations including the US, Europe and Japan are mature, it added.
Accordingly, to counteract the falling sales in these regions, most adhesive and sealant companies are turning to developing nations, which offer them sustained demand. The market for sealants in Asia-Pacific in expected to reach 816.6 million pounds by 2015, GIA points out.
The 1286-page report has 201 market data tables and costs $4950.
