Tokyo NR pushes to new all-time highs
ERJ staff report (DS)
London -- Rubber prices jumped to new all-time highs over the weekend on supply fears. Meanwhile, Yium Tavarolit , head of the International Rubber Consortium (IRCo) said that NR prices, already at record levels, may rise further in the first half of the year as major producing countries enter the low-output wintering season and low interest rates push liquidity into commodities markets. "The root problem is too much cheap money," Yium said. He declined to give a price forecast.
In Tokyo, Tocom's benchmark six-month price hit a record high of yen 522.5 ($6.27) before closing at yen 517.1 ($6.21) per kg, after afternoon trading on Monday 14 Feb. contracts for March delivery rose above Yen 534 ($6.41)
In Singapore short-dated RSS3 rose to a high of $6.40 before falling to $6.30 at the close, up by around ? cents on last week's close. Short-dated TSR20 also closed up slightly at $5.73/kg .
Indian prices on the NMCE (National Multi-Commodity Exchange) rose slightly, closing at Rs 252.7 ($5.55)/kg for May delivery.
