Hankook launches 'eco'-friendly tyre line
ERJ staff report (LMH)
Neu-Isenburg -- Hankook Tire has launched a new line of environmentally conscious passenger car tyres called Kinergy Eco, the company said in a 21 Feb statement.
The firm said the 'eco' part of the name was designed to signify the tyres' fuel-saving properties. Hankook claimed, in the statement, that it has been able to reduce the rolling resistance of the Kinergy tyres by 12 percent in comparison to conventional tyres on the market thus reducing fuel consumption.
“To us, the Kinergy Eco heralds the dawn of a new era in tyres,†said Jin-Wook Choi, European head of Hankook Tire. “Our society's values have changed a great deal in recent years. People are more environmentally conscious in their thinking and their actions, and they want their tyres to also offer better fuel economy, but without sacrificing safety and driving comfort.â€
Hankook also noted that the tyre had been developed in accordance with the standards of the EU tyre label, which is due to be introduced in all 27 member states in Nov 2012. The label will provide information of three characteristics - fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise.
