EU to charge heavy trucks more

Brussels -- The EU Parliament has agreed to permit Member States to increase road charges on vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, to compensate for damage to infrastructure and the environment.
Vehicles over 12 tones might be exempted, but each member State who wishes to do this has to notify the EU of its reasons.
The move permits member States to increase charges by euro 0.03 from around 20 eurocents per km
The proposal was passed on 7 June by 505 votes to 141 against.
