Fenzi warns of polysulphide shortages
ERJ staff report (DS)
Milan, Italy - Italian glass sealant company Fenzi SpA has warned of global shortages of polysulphide rubber - used as a sealing agent around glass windows and suchlike -- due to production disruption in Japan, following the 11 March earthquake.
Fenzi said production of polysulphide rubber at the Chiba factory of Toray Thiokol has been disrupted since the disaster and is unlikely to re-start until July. This is leading to a global shortage of the material, it said.
Fenzi said this shortage is putting alternatives such as polyurethane, butyl, silicone and hot-melt under pressure as well. Fenzi alerted customers tthat this situation is likely to lead to price increases.
