EPA removes confidentiality claims for more than 150 chemicals
ERJ staff report (TB)
Washington DC -- The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made public the identities of more than 150 chemicals in 104 health and safety studies, canceling claims by the companies involved that the substances should be kept confidential, the agency announced.
The identity of these chemicals will no longer be redacted, reflecting the Obama administration's belief that it has a duty to provide the public with as much information as possible about the health and environmental impacts of chemicals, the EPA said in a press release.
The chemicals are used in dispersant formulations, perfluorinated compounds and other applications, the EPA said.
