Hankook recalls tyres in China -report
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing -- China's quality watchdog discovered quality issues with Hankook tyres in China, adding to the quality problems experienced by Kumho in April, according to a report in the Global Times. Hankook had not responded to a request for clarification by presstime. A spokesman for Hankook Europe was on holiday and unable to answer any questions. His assistant declined to answer; a UK spokeswoman chose not to answer and a spokesman in Korea failed to respond to emails.
According to Global Times, Hankook China has confirmed that some of its China-built tyres have steelcord emerging from the rubber, which is likely to lead to premature failure.
"We've established an emergency management team led by senior executives and offer free replacement to our customers," Huang Qingyan, public relations manager of Jiangsu Hankook Tire Co, told the Global Times.
