West breaks ground on second China plant
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Shanghai, China -- West Pharmaceutical Services Inc. has broken ground on its long-planned compression molding plant in Shanghai, the company's second manufacturing plant in China.
The plant will be adjacent to West's injection molding plant, which opened in 2009.
The operation will make pharmaceutical packaging components for customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
The 128,000-sq.-ft. plant is scheduled to start production January 2013.
West first disclosed plans to build in China in 2006. The company said at the time that it would eventually have both injection molding and compression molding at the site.
In the Asia-Pacific, Lionville, Pa.-based West also has a factory in Singapore, and it is an equity partner of Daikyo Seiko Ltd., a Tokyo-based maker of pharmaceutical packaging and medical device components.
