MRF declares lockout at Kottayam tyre factory

Mumbai -- Indian tyre maker MRF Ltd has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that the Management has declared lock out at the Company's Manufacturing Plant situated at Kottayam in Kerala with effect from 5.00 AM on June 22, 2011. on account of labour unrest in the factory.
The news came in the form of a brief statement to BSE.
Local press reports suggested that a dispute arose when union members blocked goods coming into the plant, following a dispute over working conditions. The newspaper said MRF was manufacturing 2,600 tyres a day at the plant. While estimating the daily loss on account of the strike at Rs 3 crore.
