Brussels -- Solvay S.A. will spend $170 million to build a fluoropolymers plant at its manufacturing site in Changshu, China.
The plant will make Solef-brand polyvinylidene fluoride resins and Tecnoflon-brand fluoroelastomers, as well as a monomer used in their production, officials with Brussels-based Solvay said.
The plant is set top open in early 2014 and will be located next to a speciality compounding plant that Solvay will open at the site in late 2012.
Solef resins are used in lithium ion batteries, water purification membranes and similar uses. Applications for Tecnoflon materials include seals, gasket and complex moulded parts.
