Dr Kamarul to become ANRPC secretary general

Kuala Lumpur -- Dato' Dr Kamarul Baharain Bin Basir will be secretary general of the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) for a three-year term starting 1 July.
Dr Kamarul, a nominee of the government of Malaysia, succeeds Indonesia's Prof Dr Djoko Damardjati, the ANRPC said in a 17 June press release.
Dr Kamarul, former director general of the Malaysian Rubber Board, brings to the ANRPC more than 34 years of experiences gained in developing the rubber industry of Malaysia, the association said. He has been a member of the Malaysian Rubber Board since 1976 and became the director general in 2006, a position that he held until 2010.
He had also held various other positions including chairman of International Rubber Trade Association, chairman of Malaysian Rubber Exchange, and chairman of Technical Committee of Standards Writing on Engineering Rubber Products.
After graduating in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in the UK in 1976, Dr Kamarul was awarded a PhD. from the University of Loughborough, UK in 1984 for his research project on internal mixing of fillers in natural rubber.
