CRIA seminar reports on low-temperature mixing
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing -- Last week, the Tyre branch of the China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA) held a technical seminar on rubber mixing. Presentations from Triangle Group Co., Ltd. and, Yiyang Rubber Machinery Group Co., Ltd. discussed low temperature mixing, which holds the promise of much lower energy consumption and improved distribution of silica.
A report on the CRIA website said standard mixing involves repeated heating/cooling cycles and a piece of rubber may take 12 hours or more to move from initial mixing into final tyre curing. The process discussed by Triangle means that this time can be reduced to 30 minutes, with a saving of energy of around 40 percent and a space saving within the factory of 50 percent.
The report from CRIA says (in translation) According to the Triangle Group technicians Wang Baojiang, the mixing process by reducing the number of times to extend the low temperature, mixing time, mixing each time the mixture increases greatly enhance the physical properties of rubber, carbon black dispersion, dynamic mechanical properties, effectively improve the performance of more than 15 percent rubber. Through the manufacturing process of tyres after a road test field loading, wear performance improved significantly, 7.2 percent improved mileage wear.
By way of explanation the CRIA says, "large-scale application of silica will be inevitable, but the traditional way of mixing a large amount of silica mixing is more difficult. Therefore, in order to achieve China's tyre industry from big to strong, to be in the rubber mixing process aspects of innovation."
