Washington DC -- American Honda Motor Co. Inc. has voluntarily recalled 2,232 Honda motorcycles, models ST 1300, ST 1300A and ST 1300PA, model years 2008 through 2010.
The problem with these motorcycles, Honda told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is in the routing of the pre-formed hose that supplies brake fluid from the rear brake reservoir to the rear brake master cylinder.
When heavily loaded and ridden over rough surfaces, the rear suspension of the motorcycle can bottom out, Honda said. When this happens, the brake fluid hose can come into contact with the swingarm and develop a leak.
Honda motorcycle dealers will install a new rear brake reservoir hose free of charge that is routed to avoid the swingarm, the company said. Honda began notifying dealers of the recall July 6 and plans to mail recall notification to owners between July 26 and Aug. 2.
