Titan forms mining services subsidiary
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Quincy, Illinois -- Titan International Inc. has formed Titan Mining Services, a subsidiary that will offer complete tyre, wheel and track services for end users.
The company's first location will be Fort MacKay, Alberta. Titan said it chose Canada's oil sands region to begin the mining services business “because of the great amount of equipment used in the region.â€
Titan is partnering with Saskatoon Wholesale Tire Ltd., which has operated in the area for a number of years and also represents Titan Tire there.
Chairman and CEO Maurice Taylor Jr. said Titan has been approached by a number of mines to offer this service and Titan plans to rapidly expand the business globally. “As we expand, Titan will be working with local businesses in all areas of the world,†he said, claiming that Titan is the only company worldwide that “has the engineering expertise on wheels, tyres and track components and we will be training many new technicians.â€
Titan plans to announce soon who will head the new mining services unit, which in the meantime will operate from the company's corporate offices in Quincy.
Titan International is a holding company that owns subsidiaries supplying wheels, tyres and assemblies for off-highway equipment used in agricultural, earthmoving/construction and consumer applications.
