Discovery channel featured Cancarb on Shuttle tribute programme
ERJ staff report (DS)
Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada -- The Discovery Channel in North America recently aired a special tribute to the Shuttle programme. A one-minute segment about 20 minutes in, features Cancarb which supplies its N990 Medium Thermal Black to the programme.
The episode entitled “The Last Shuttle†featured the final launch of the space shuttle, interviews with various astronauts and NASA personnel, as well as a segment on Cancarb. The hermal black (made from natural gas, rather than heavy oil) protects the interior metal surface of the solid rocket booster structures. As the solid fuel burns, the carbon black prevents the metal structure getting to hot, and so permits the structures to be re-used after each launch.
