Solutia cites sluggish demand from Chinese tyre makers

St Louis Missouri -- Solutia Inc. has said poor performance in its rubber chemicals business was due partly to sluggish demand from Chinese tyre makers.,
Jeffry Quinn, Solutia's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer said in a conference call to analysts, "Growth in our replacement tyre and rubber markets may seem to have been a bit slow, but you have realise that while this was in part of due to the sluggish demand from Chinese tyre producers."
he added, "Specifically related to tyres, truck tonnage in May was down 2 percent compared to April, but up almost 3 percent year over year. "
