Specialty Tires plant fire injures six
ERJ staff report (TB)
Indiana, Pennsylvania -- Three firefighters and three employees were treated for injuries after a fire erupted in a refrigeration unit at the Specialty Tires of America Inc. tyre plant in Indiana at 5 p.m., July 27.
The cause of the fire, which was contained to an attached storage building, is still under investigation by the state fire marshal's department, according to Indiana Fire Chief Charles Kelly.
Fourteen fire departments were called to the scene, where the fire had engulfed the refrigeration unit and storage building that contained chemicals and raw materials for the tyre-building plant. No tyres were involved in the fire, the fire chief said. The blaze was under control in about one-and-a-half hours.
A damage estimate was unavailable.
Specialty Tires, a subsidiary of Polymer Enterprises Inc., manufactures industrial, mining, farm and OTR tyres.
