Dr J Thomas takes over as Indian rubber production commissioner

Kottayam, India -- Dr J Thomas has been appointed rubber production commissioner of the Rubber Board of India.
An agronomist by profession and experienced in plant nutrition and plantation management, he had been working as Director of research in the Spices Board. He had also worked as the Project Co-ordinator and Head of the Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Research Station of Agricultural University of Kerala, according to a 3 August announcement from the Rubber Board of India.
A known academician, administrator and researcher, he studied Agriculture at Agricultural University of Kerala and has a PhD from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He is also a postdoctoral research fellow of University of Bristol, UK.
In the Rubber Board, he will be heading the Department of Rubber Production, which is responsible for planning, formulation and implementation of schemes for improvement and expansion of rubber cultivation, and production in the country.
