Bridgestone expands Wuxi car tyre plant

Tokyo -- Bridgestone Corp. is to increase capacity for passenger car tyres at its plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, with the new capacity due on stream in May 2012. Much of the expansion is focussed on low rolling resistance Ecopia-brand tyres.

Under the current schedule,Bridgestone (Wuxi) Tire Co., Ltd will invest approximately 563 million yuan (approximately euro 61 million), which will boost the plant's production capacity by 4,100 tyres per day, enabling it to produce a total of 16,300 tyres per day.

Currently the site covers 290 000 m² and employs 1078 people. The plant was opened in July 2004
