Michelin honored as military tyre supplier
ERJ staff report (TB)
Columbus, Ohio - The US military's Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has awarded Michelin North America with two Best Value Awards, one each to Michelin Truck Tires and Michelin Aircraft Tires.
Michelin was one of 182 companies, out of more than 7,000 military parts suppliers, honored at a ceremony held during the 2011 DLA Industry Conference and Exhibition in Columbus recently.
Michelin was recognised for meeting performance requirements in the Automated Best Value System while acting as the prime contractor for the government's tyre-privatisation initiative.
Michelin won two Tire Privatisation Initiative contracts in 2007 to procure, store and distribute tyres to the US military. The company, which supplies tyres for nearly every aircraft and ground vehicle used by the military, sources some of the tyres from other tyre manufacturers. The tyre maker said it has delivered more than 1.5 million tyres to more than 2,500 military locations around the world.
