Melbourne, Australia -- Australian glove and condom maker Ansell Ltd has reported higher sales and profits for the 12 months to 30 June 2011. The company said sales increased by 11 percent in US dollar terms, but the company reported a fall in both figures in the company's reporting currency, Australian dollars.
Ansell said sales reached A$1220 million (Euro 888.6 million) in the 12 months, down slightly on the figure of A$ 1231 million reported a year ago. Pre-tax profit was also slightly lower at A$ 139 million (previously A$143.1 million)
Ansell's CEO, Magnus Nicolin commented, "Ansell faced strong head winds in F'11, due to significant increases in the prices of
Natural Rubber Latex (NRL) and cotton, and more recently, utility costs. These were
offset by higher volumes, price increases and improved efficiencies at all levels. Our
excellent results reflect the speed with which Ansell has reacted to these cost
challenges."
Ansell said it has launched a range of condoms made from synthetic polyisoprene under the Skyn name. This rtange has been succcesful and wil be expanded in the comping months.
