Tokai sees growth in China's earthquake bearing business
ERJ staff report (DS)
Komaki, Japan -- Tokai Rubber Industries is working to develop its earthquake bearing business in China. The company recently fitted its TRC dampers to a school in Beijing, but believes that the market for these products will grow quickly in China.
China has experienced significant earthquake damage in recent years, notably with the May 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Increasingly, said Tokai, the Chinese authorities are demanding that public buildings such as schools and hospitals are protected from earthquake damage by base isolation systems.
Tokai has been working with Tsinghua University to develop products appropriate to the Chinese market.
