Michelin releases August tyre sales data

Paris -- Michelin has updated its website with a limited regional breakdown of the growth in the global tyre industry.
The site still only gives percentage changes from a year ago and ignores Asia, but the data shows continued growth. Data is given for August, and for the year to date, which covers the first eight months of 2011.
In truck tyre markets, Europe's growth in the OE market is continues to slow, with growth in the year to date of of 53.2 percent, though year-on-year growth in August was lower, at 31.7 percent. On the replacement side, growth in the first eight months of 13.7 percent increased its reversal, with markets showing a decline of 3.3 percent in August.
In the Americas, North American OE truck tyre markets rose by 59.0 percent in the year to date and the pace of growth continued with growth of 53.1 percent in the month of August. Replacement sales were up by 10.5 percent in the year to date but the decline of the last few months reversed August with an increase of 7.3 percent.. In Brazil, Michelin appears not to have updated the figures, suggesting that OE sales rose by 21.0 percent in the first eight months, and the growth rate slowed to 11.1 percent in August (the same figures as published in July), while replacement sales were up by 14.8 percent in the year to date but down by 5.8 percent in August. Michelin did not report sales outside these countries.
Car tyre markets showed universal growth. Europe showed growth of 8.3 percent in the OE market for the first eight months, slowing to 6.7 percent in August. On the replacement side, growth in the year to date was 9.3 percent, matched by growth of 10.8 percent in August.
In the Americas, North American OE markets rose by 6.0 percent in the year to date and by 10.9 percent in August, while replacement sales were down by 0.1 percent in the year to date, but up by 2.7 percent growth in August. In Brazil, OE sales rose by 7.5 percent in the year to date which was maintained with growth of 6.4 percent in the most recent month, while replacement sales were up by 4.8 percent over the eight months and by 3.8 percent in August.
Michelin did not report sales outside these countries.
