MEPS vote for restraint on raw material consumption
ERJ staff report (RPN)
London - Members of the European Parliament (MEPS) have adopted a report aimed at securing raw material supply in Europe.
The report. which was drafted by Green MEP Reinhard Buetikofer, was published on 13 Sept after a debate the previous day.
It suggests that current raw material practices are unsustainable and a more efficient strategy is required in the current economic situation.
The European Parliament is urging EU states to avoid shortages of essential raw materials by developing alternative resources and recycling materials where possible.
The report refers to a “broad range†of raw materials including natural rubber, wood and aggregates and calls on the European Commission to “carry out analyses on the availability of, and potential demand for, these materials†and to take appropriate action.
