Malaysian NR production down on December 2010

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of natural rubber (NR) declined slightly in December 2011 compared with the same month in 2010. Production of NR was recorded at 79,726 tonnes in December 2011, an increase of 11,565 tonnes (+17.0 percent) compared to the previous month. Nevertheless, this month's production is 5,505 tonnes (-6.5 percent) lower from the previous year.
December's exports of amounted to 76,144 tonnes, up by 9,842 tonnes (+14.8 percent) compared to November whereas year-on-year, exports dropped 3,328 tonnes (-4.2 percent). Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) represents 94.2 per cent of total NR exports of which 52.0 per cent was SMR 20.
December's imports amounted to 62,918 tonnes, up by 3,092 tonnes (+5.2 percent) when compared to November 2011. Comparing to a year ago, imports reduced by 777 tonnes (-1.2 percent). Large portions of this NR imports constituted of latex concentrate (39.9 percent).
Domestic consumption of NR in December 2011 was 33,896 tonnes, up by 58 tonnes (+0.2 percent) from a month ago. Year-on-year the figure reduced by 2,689 tonnes (-7.4 percent).
In December 2011, the average monthly price of NR on the overall was lower compared to last month. The average price of latex concentrate dropped 24.12 sen (-3.5 percent) to 668.26 sen compared to the previous month, whilst year-on-year, price dropped 276.03 sen (-29.2 percent).
