Bjørnslev to lead Lanxess in North America

Pittsburgh, There's going to be a change at the top for Lanxess Corp., the North American business unit of specialty chemicals, plastics and rubber maker Lanxess AG.

Flemming Bjørnslev will replace Randy Dearth as the Pittsburgh-based unit's president and CEO on July 31. Bjørnslev, age 45, has been with Lanxess and its predecessor firm - Bayer AG - since 1990. He most recently had served as CEO of Lanxess's Central Eastern Europe division.

Dearth, 48, is leaving Lanxess to become president and CEO of Calgon Carbon Corp., a Pittsburgh-based supplier of activated carbon. Dearth joined Bayer in 1988 and had been president and CEO of Lanxess Corp. since it was spun off from Bayer in 2004.

“Randy has been a central figure in the carve-out and creation of Lanxess in North America,” Lanxess AG board member Rainier van Roessel said in a June 27 news release. “We will not forget his focus, determination and passion that helped shape our corporate culture.”

Lanxess AG - based in Leverkusen, Germany - posted sales of more than $11 billion last year. Its plastics-related products include specialty nylon resins and non-phthalate plasticisers.
