US tyre buyers “not interested in rolling resistanceâ€
ERJ staff report (TB)
New England, United States - Purchasers of tyres in the US are 'not interested' in the rolling resistance of their tyres, according to Kevin Rohlwing, senior vice president of training at the US-based Tire Industry Association, quoting research from NHTSA and retailers.
Rohlwing said research from tyre dealers and retailers concluded that rolling resistance is not a factor In the vast majority of tyre buying decisions in the US. He said this did not come as a surprise to his audience of tyre dealers, "What they are Interested in is price." he said.
He concluded that tyre labelling is not an effective tool for comparing tyres.
