Conti brings SA mixer on line
ERJ staff report (DS)
Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Continental Tyre South Africa has brought on stream a new mixer line at its Port Elizabeth manufacturing facility.
The company said the mixer represents a Rand 109 million (euro 10.7 million) investment. Conti said the mixer will help with first stage mixing of silica and carbon black. It was imported from Germany and installed over a period of five months.
“The primary advantage of the new mixer is that it allows much better temperature control during the mixing cycle, which leads to more accurate reproducibility of compounds as well as better dispersion of the fillers,†said the company.
The new mixer, called Mixer 1 is dedicated to an employee, the late David John Laine, who has worked in mixing for 46 years, but was murdered about two months ago. “He was a loyal employee and was respected by all his fellow workers,†says a spokesman for Conti SA.
In a statement, Conti said, “The mixer installation, which is approximately 30 metres or 10 storeys high, was officially launched by Nikolai Setzer, Member of the Executive Board, Tyre division of Continental AG.â€
