Tyre demand growing in China - report
ERJ staff report (DS)
Hong Kong / Beijing - Chinese Demand for tyres is strong, based on increased sales of cars to China's population. The tyre growth is based partly on OE demand but also because when a car is a few years old, the tyres need replacing.
A report published on the CRIA website says each of four tyres on a car has a life of 2-3 years, which means there is a replacement cycle of around 1.6 tyres per vehicle per year in a dditino to 4 or 5 units for each new car sold. The report does not appear to take into account the high level of punctures on the Chinese roads
In truck tyres, said the report, the life is around 18 months, but there are up to 20 tyres per vehicle.
In mining tyres, the report suggests a lifetime of 2 years for either 4 or 6 tyres per vehicle
The report notes that car ownership in China reached 628 million units in 2009, but car tyre sales (OE and replacement) were around 179 million units. By 2011 car ownership had risen to 1058 million units while demand for car tyres had accelerated to 280 million units/year.
