Mixing room destroyed in fire at Kalamaserry tyre factory - no-one hurt

Kalamaserry, Kerala, India - A fire at an Apollo Tyres tyre factory in southern India has resulted in no injuries, but severe damage to equipment and materials.
Apollo said in a statement, that a fire began in the mixing room at Kalamaserry around 2230 hours on Sunday, September 2, 2012. The fire was brought under control by 0200 hours on Monday morning. There were no casualties or injuries in the incident.
The company said, “Alternative arrangements have been made for sourcing the mixed compound -- the output of the unit destroyed -- and normal production is expected to be resumed at this facility in the next few days.â€
Apollo said all losses are covered under insurance. The company has recently announced an expansion at the plant to make it a hub for off-road tyre manufacture.
