Pirelli a 'world leader' on Dow Jones sustainability index

Milan, Italy -- For the sixth consecutive year, Pirelli & C. S.p.A. has been named “world leader†in the autoparts and tyres sector of the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe indices.
DuPont de Nemours, ExxonMobil and JSR Corp joined similar lists for the first time, in the Chemicals segment.
The Milan-based tyre maker said it had a score of 86 points compared with a sector average score of 53.
Results of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices assessment were announced Sept. 19 by SAM, a Swiss investment boutique focused on sustainability investing, and by the S&P Dow Jones Indices. A company's performance is assessed on the basis of three elements- economic, environmental and social-by which the concept of sustainability is measured, according to Pirelli.
Pirelli said the quantitative and qualitative indicators of tangible and intangible performance consider the following:
- Corporate governance;
- Processes of innovation;
- Reporting and management of environmental systems responsible product management;
- Capacity for emissions reductions and environmental consumption;
- Development and management of human capital;
- Commitment towards the community;
- Health and safety in the work place;
- Sustainable management of the supply chain; and
- Effectiveness of dialogue with all stakeholders of relevance to the companies analysed.
