Investigation authority says it has sufficient evidence that product being dumped
New Delhi – The Indian government has opened an investigation into the alleged dumping of untreated fumed silica imported from China and South Korea.
The probe was launched following an application by local producer Cabot Sanmar Ltd, said a 22 Sept notification by the Indian commerce ministry’s investigation arm directorate general of trade remedies (DGTR).
The investigation will probe the period between 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020 to assess injury to domestic industry, said DGTR.
In its application, Cabot Sanmar stated that fumed silica was “majorly produced and exported” from China, Korea, the EU and Japan during the period of investigation.
Accordingly, the applicant has demanded that the average price from the EU to India to be considered for determining “normal value” for the products from China and Korea.
"There is sufficient prima facie evidence that product under consideration is being exported to India at price below normal value, resulting in dumping of the product from the subject countries," DGTR said.
Interested parties have 37 days to submit any relevant information to the investigation authority.
Among other applications, fumed silica can be used as reinforcement for silicone rubber to improve its strength as well as elongation and creep performance.
