Cooper Standard cutting more than 80 jobs at US facility

Surgoinsville, Tennessee – Automotive parts supplier Cooper Standard Holdings Inc. is permanently laying off 86 workers at a plant in Tennessee.

In an 11 Aug notice with the Tennessee department of labour, the Novi, Michigan-based company said the move at its Surgoinsville site is effective 20 Oct.

A Cooper Standard spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for additional information.

The automotive supplier invested $1 million in building a new plant facility and expanding its operations in Surgoinsville in 2017. 

The company manufactures coolant tube and hose assemblies, transmission oil cooling lines, and fuel and brake lines at the Hawkins County facility.

Cooper Standard disclosed earlier this year that it would shut down two production facilities, without naming locations at the time.

That was in addition to 10 factories it shuttered last year, with those including six in Asia, three in North America and one in Europe.

Cooper Standard's core product lines include sealing, fuel and brake delivery and fluid transfer systems.
