Michelin launches farm tire pressure technology in UK

Stoke-on-Trent, UK – Michelin is introducing its latest agricultural tire pressure technology for high-powered tractors in the UK, enabling farmers to easily adjust tire pressures for heavy road or field work.

Designed specifically for fitment in combination with a central tire inflation system (CTIS) and Michelin’s Ultraflex tire range, Zen@Terra connects directly into the tractor’s ISOBUS system.

Isobus is the standard protocol that enables data exchange and communication between tractors, software and equipment of major manufacturers.

Once installed, the Michelin system allows farmers to switch between low pressures, for soil protection, and higher pressures, for road use, the French group said in a 12 Aug statement.

The process, according to Michelin, takes “a matter of minutes” and can be operated via an “easy-to-use, integrated in-cab touch-screen display.”

Compatible with most modern tractors, the system features pre-programmed settings which allow the user to tailor pressures depending on the implement attached and vehicle usage. 

Pressures can also be adjusted for empty, half or full loads, as well as slope work. 

Furthermore, the system features a ‘boost’ function, which sets extreme low pressure for three minutes, when extra grip is needed.

Developed based on feedback from farmers, the technology is being rolled out in the UK following ‘years of research and development’ and after successful trials across Europe, Michelin said.

“Zen@Terra is a complete solution, managing all aspects of tires and their interaction with the ground, both in the field and on the road,” said Mark White, Michelin’s UK national sales manager – agriculture & construction.

The system, he said, helps optimise the performance of the vehicles, increases tire life and improves productivity and yields.

It can be used with any Michelin Ultraflex agricultural tires; including Michelin’s AxioBib, AxioBib 2, EvoBib and XeoBib fitments.
