June figures see marginal year-on-year increase in Chinese new car sales
Oxford, UK - World car registrations in June 2020 were down 18.1% compared with the same month in 2019 at 6.36 million units, according to LMC Automotive.
In the US, sales were lower by 26.2% in June, reaching 1.1 million units. By comparison, US dealers sold 1.5 million units during the same month in 2019.
Meanwhile, LMC Automotive noted that sales in China sales hit the 2.2 million unit mark, an increase of 6% compared to May. June's figures also represent a slight increase from June 2019, when Chinese dealers sold 2.1 million units.
At the same time, in Western Europe sales came in at 1.1 million units, a drop of 27% compared to 2019.
Sales in Brazil and Argentina fell to 158,000 units in the month, significantly lower than the 249,000 units sold the previous year. .
"While the latest results are still well below healthy market levels, they do represent a continuing improvement from the April low," LMC Automotive said.
"With lockdowns being lifted across much of the world, recovery appears to be underway, though a sizable risk of deterioration remains."
