Carbon black maker says production site in Orange, Texas, now compliant with environmental standards
Houston, Texas – Orion Engineered Carbons has completed a significant upgrade of emissions controls at its carbon black production plant in Orange, Texas, the company announced 9 July.
The site now complies with strengthened environmental standards which reduce the site’s emission permits for NOx and SO2 by 2,300 tonnes per year, Orion said.
Technology installed at the facility includes a thermal oxidiser that is more effective than the incinerator which was previously used to reduce the pollutants, according to the carbon black manufacturer.
In addition, the company installed a ‘selective catalytic reduction reactor’ to reduce the emission of NOx.
The project, which started in mid-2019, is now fully operational, according to Orion.
"I congratulate our project and plant teams and our contractors for completing this project on time despite the pandemic,” said CEO Corning Painter.
