Apollo inaugurates two-wheel tire production plant 

Chennai, India – Apollo Tyres has officially opened a dedicated facility to manufacture two-wheeler radial and cross ply tires at its existing plant in Limda, Vadodara, in the western state of Gujarat

Inaugurated virtually by chairman Onkar S Kanwar on 15 July, the plant spans more than 10,000 square metres, Apollo said in a statement. 

This facility has an initial capacity to produce 30,000 motorcycle radials and 60,000 motorcycle cross ply tires per month.

Having been set up in a modular layout, the facility can increase production based on demand by replicating the modules, Apollo added. 

With the new production base, the Indian tire maker said it was aiming to lead the premium two-wheeler segment in India, which constitutes nearly 20% of the two-wheeler market in the country. 

According to Apollo, the segment is the fastest growing one due to urbanisation trends, rising consumer income levels and increasing young population.

India, the tire maker noted, is the largest two-wheeler market in the world, “and still has a headroom for further growth.” 

The current Covid-19 pandemic has also driven demand as people are moving away from shared/public transport.

“We are aiming for a strong foothold in the high-value, highly profitable premium motorcycle tire market,”  said Neeraj Kanwar, vice chairman and managing director, Apollo Tyres Ltd.
