University of Dundee, Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc sign partnership agreement

Dundee, Scotland – The University of Dundee and Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) have announced a strategic partnership to advance innovation for sustainable mobility.

Built on the former Michelin tire manufacturing facility, MSIP is a joint venture between Michelin Dundee City Council, and Scottish Enterprise, for advanced manufacturing and technology.

The JV was formed in 2019 with the goal to drive growth and diversity in the Scottish economy while addressing the global climate emergency.

In a memorandum of understanding (MoU) singed 23 June, the University of Dundee and MSIP said they would collaborate to enable the innovation of new products and processes for those located at the innovation park. 

The link-up will also help tenant companies develop “new and advancing products” for the future of sustainable mobility and low carbon energy, MISP announced.

In addition, the park will have access to the university’s expertise in a range of relevant areas as part of the partnership.

MSIP and the University will also work together to identify and apply for relevant funding opportunities and collaborate on MSIP’s Skills Academy and accelerator programme.

“The University of Dundee has a strong network of local and global partnerships and collaborations, and an exceptional offering in R&D and commercialisation of technology,” said John Reid, CEO of MSIP. 

The university, he said, produces “excellent graduates in a range of disciplines directly relevant to MSIP.” 

Also commenting, Professor John Rowan of the University of Dundee, said the move aimed to stimulate new enterprise and business locally, which can also make an impact globally.

“Working with MISP and other partners will help us create new opportunities and establish new jobs, bringing investment to Dundee,” he added.
