Parker Hannifin develops EPDM seal material for drinking water

Features include enhanced resistance against autoxidation and temperature tolerance of up to 180 °C
Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany – Parker Prädifa, the engineered materials business of Parker Hannifin, has developed a new, long-service life EPDM sealing material which it says complies with all international drinking water standards.
Specifically designed for drinking water applications, EJ820 has enhanced resistance against autoxidation and can withstand temperatures of up to 180 °C, said Parker Prädifa said 3 July.
These features, in addition to “outstanding” mechanical properties and chemicals resistance, make the material also suitable for heating and solar thermal energy systems as well as many chemicals applications.
Among others, seals made from the EPDM material are resistant to organic and inorganic acids, detergents, sodium and caustic potash, silicone oils and greases, and in hydraulic fluids based on phosphoric acid esters (HFD-R), the company statement said.
Coated with Parker Prädifa’s ParCoat, the seal can be installed with “low friction and minimal application of force using automatic equipment.”
The coating will not contaminate the feeding systems of automatic installation equipment while preventing the rings from sticking together or being damaged, according to Parker Prädifa.
It also allows the seals to be stretched by as much as 150% without the anti-friction coating bursting or cracking.
