Group "fully cooperating" with German authorities and says no one from its Tire Division or ContiTech is being investigated
Hanover, Germany – Continental has confirmed reports that it has been targeted by German authorities investigating the VW Group’s use of technologies to suppress emissions-measurement values on some of its diesel vehicles.
On 1 July, “public prosecutors and the police visited several of our locations, including Hanover, Frankfurt and Regensburg,” confirmed a Continental statement supplied to ERJ.
This, it continued, “was in the scope of current investigation proceedings related to the defeat device used by VW in one of its diesel engines.”
Continental is cooperating fully with the authorities and will not comment publicly on ongoing proceedings, said a company spokesman, adding that no one from the Tire Division or ContiTech is being investigated.
The spokesman went on to say that a Continental statement from 2015 continued to apply: “We have not supplied any of our customers with software for the manipulation of emissions test values.
“We have explained this several times publicly, and our statements in this regard have not been contradicted or challenged.
“The software Continental supplied to its customers was suitable for compliance with the emission limits applicable at that point in time.”
