FIA confirms Hankook as future tire partner for Formula E

Korean tire maker says will employ “innovative technology and connectivity benefits” to produce tires for the races
Seoul – The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has confirmed Hankook Tire & Technology as Gen3 tire partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the tire maker announced 1 July.
To be introduced from 2022, the all-electric Gen3 cars are required to offer more power with less weight and a new drive.
As part of the partnership, Hankook said it will employ “innovative technology and connectivity benefits” to create “bespoke” tires for the street races.
These tires, it said, will offer “a very low" rolling resistance to help them raise electric vehicles efficiency.
Furthermore, the tires will features ‘bio-sourced materials and sustainable rubber’, the company added.
Hankook said equipping the street racing formula will form the core of the company's international campaigns and commitments to sustainability and environmental protection.
"[The selection of] our company coincides with Formula E’s move towards sustainable growth and we are excited to be a part of this journey as their Gen3 partner," said Sooil Lee, president and COO of Hankook Tire & Technology.
According to Hankook, “leading electric car manufacturers” already use tailor-made Hankook brand ev-tires for the original equipment of their road cars.
“Now, the company will join in Formula E’s pursuit towards creating a better, cleaner world by providing its future oriented tire technology,” the company added.
