Elastomers for Sustainability judging panel announced

London – Top experts in fields of materials science and sustainability will lead the judging process for ERJ’s new Elastomers for Sustainability (E4S) initiative. 

The E4S panel – to draw up a Top 10 of new materials technologies based on their contribution to enhancing the environmental profile of the rubber/elastomers industry – comprises: 

Prof James Busfield, professor of materials & national teaching fellow director of industrial engagement & head of the soft matter group, Queen Mary University of London.

Dr. Christoph Sokolowski, lead on ‘sustainability’ issues within the German rubber industry association the WDK (Wirtschaftsverband  der deutschen Kautschukindustrie), based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Martyn Bennett, who has recently founded UK-based consultancy Midsomer Science, after a career spanning over 30 years at Avon Rubber plc, most recently as chief scientist and head of its ARTIS consultancy service. 

Ji?í Brejcha, head of Brejcha Rubber Consulting, and former materials development specialist at Trelleborg Wheel Systems, and before that Mitas, Prague, Czech Republic.

The judging process will be coordinated by Patrick Raleigh, editor of European Rubber Journal, with support from Bruce Meyer, editor of Rubber & Plastics News.

With the Top 10 to be announced in ERJ's July/August issue, the E4S programme comprises five categories:
-    Automotive components
-    Construction, including recreational areas
-    Consumer, medical and other GRGs
-    Industrial products
-    Tires

ERJ readers and companies are invited to provide suggestions for the Top 10, along with supporting details, which can range from written suggestions to published information such as press releases and technical papers. 

Entries can be supplied via email or by completing the E4S Survey Form, no later than the extended deadline of 12 June.
