Suspensions introduced in response “market situation and decline in the demand”
Tokyo - Bridgestone Corp. has announced a temporary phased shutdown of a number of its plants in Japan in response to what it described as the “market situation and decline in the demand”.
In total, 12 facilities will be idled for varying durations between mid-May and mid-June, Bridgestone said in a 20 May statement.
Tire production plants in Kurume, Fukuoka; Nasu, Tochigi; Hikone, Shiga; Tosu, Saga; Tochigi, Tochigi; Amagi, Fukuoka; and Hofu, Yamaguchi will halt manufacturing between 28 May and 1 June. The Kurume plant’s aircraft tire production operation will be suspended until 7 June.
In addition, some rubber track and hose manufacturing lines at the group’s plants in Kumamoto and Seki will be suspended between 26-31 May.
Bridgestone's rubber parts and antivibration systems production lines in Iwata will undergo phased shutdowns between 16 May and 14 June.
