Birla, Cabot win top prize for safety performance 

New Orleans, Louisiana – The International Carbon Black Association (ICBA) has recognised 32 global carbon black manufacturing and research facilities for their ‘above average’ safety performance.

The award is part of ICBA’s safety recognition programme which acknowledges “outstanding safety records” with the goal “to have every person going home the same way they arrived at the worksite”, the association announced 29 April.

The top prize – gold awards – was granted to production facilities by Birla Carbon and Cabot Corp.

The top honour recognises sites for registering zero lost work day (LWD), 50% improvement in safety compared to the year before and achieving external safety recognition such as ISO 45001, ISO14001. The recognition also goes to any site with more than three years of zero LWD.

Birla Carbon facilities in Camacari, Brazil; Hungary; Italy; Egypt; Weifang and Jining, China; Korea, Thailand; Renukoot, Gummidipoondi, and Taloja in India and Marietta, the US, won the gold prize. 

Cabot facilities in Argentina; Brazil; Columbia; Mexico; Indonesia; Chiba and Shimonoseki, Japan; Shanghai, Xingtai, and Tianjin, China; Italy, Czech Republic and Ville Platte, the US were also recognised by gold award.
