Smiley Monroe to restart operations at ‘reduced capacity’ 

Lisburn, UK – Conveyor belt producer Smiley Monroe is resuming all production activities across its sites in Northern Ireland as of 5 May, it was announced 30 April.

The manufacturer of endless conveyor belts and cut rubber had halted its operations in Northern Ireland and India since late March, in response to Covid-19 pandemic.

The move to reopen came after a new priority business list by the Department of Economy which deemed Smiley Monroe's activities as “essential” for supply chain continuity for segments such as quarry mining, construction and waste. 

The company said it had implemented “comprehensive safety measures” at its locations to ensure the safety of its employees. 

Smiley Monroe Inc in Kentucky, the US, also opened for production this week and is operating in line with state and federal health and safety guidelines, the company added. 

Operations in Hosur, India, which were halted 24 March, will remain temporarily closed. The company will review this decision “early next week” in line with updated government guidelines.
