Findlay, Ohio — Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. plans to extend the Covid pandemic-induced production suspension at its tire plants in Europe and North America for at least two more weeks, the company has announced.
Cooper initially began phasing down production at its North American plants on 21 March and said at that time they would be idled for two to three weeks.
The tire maker operates three production plants in the US and one in Mexico, employing approximately 5,200 hourly workers.
The temporary plant closures affect facilities in Findlay, Ohio; Clarksdale and Tupelo, Mississippi.; Texarkana, Arkansas.; and El Salto, Mexico.
Cooper also said its plants in Savska, Serbia and Melksham, UK, where production was idled 23 March, remain closed on a temporary basis.
The company's plants in China reopened several weeks ago and have continued to ramp up production and remain in operation.
